BASICS

Deloitte is a multinational professional services company. It has 475,000 employees globally. Deloitte is considered to be one of the four big accounting firms. Its legal headquarters is in London England and its executive headquarters is in New York City. Deloitte has numerous offices throughout the United States and the rest of the world.

Deloitte earned a Best Places To Work for Working Daughters for 2023. Working Daughter praised Deloitte’s generous paid family leave and back-up care benefits.

Here at Support For Caregivers Network, we applaud Deloitte’s family leave policy and its commitment to flexible work options. The company also provides a comprehensive returnship experience for employees coming back to work after a leave. All of these benefits support employee family caregivers.

We note that Deloitte’s decision to abandon employee resource groups could further isolate employee family caregivers and that the company could develop support group and education opportunities for employee family caregivers. Such programs would reduce the isolation of struggling caregivers and strengthen ties of loyalty to the company.

LEAVE, FLEXIBILITY & DIRECT SUPPORT BENEFITS

Here at the Support For Caregivers Network we have taken to calling these HARD benefits because they are more tangible and somewhat easier to identify.

Sixteen Weeks of Paid Family Leave: Deloitte offers up to 16 weeks of fully paid leave in a rolling 365-day period to bond with a new child…or to care for a family member with a serious health condition.

Unpaid leave options are available. There are two types of sabbaticals offered, one-month unpaid for any reason and three to six months partially paid for personal growth development.

According to FairyGodBoss.com, Deloitte’s paid time off (PTO), for any reason, ranges from 20-30 days per year, depending on the position.

Deloitte offers the Deloitte Encore Program: training and coaching to help people returning to work after a break, including breaks from work due to caregiving. It is available for Deloitte employees who have been away from work at least six months.

Flexible and virtual work arrangements are allowed for a variety of reasons. Managers are trained to help employees devise flexible work options.

Around 95% of Deloitte workers telecommute.

Back Up Dependent Care. This service can be used when an employee needs to be at work and their regular child or adult/elder care is unavailable. Care is available for children and adult relatives of eligible Deloitte employees, up to a maximum of 30 days per employee per fiscal year. Back up care is offered through Bright Horizons, or can be reimbursed to employee, up to $100 per day.

It is unclear whether Deloitte offers any concierge or discount programs for employees who are seeking regular care options, whether in-home or out, for their loved ones, but FairyGodBoss.com notes that Deloitte “contributes to eldercare expenses.”

FELLOWSHIP, LEARNING, INCLUSION & WORK-LIFE CULTURE BENEFITS

These benefits are SOFT because they are often harder to quantify. We include the presence of support groups, learning programs and employee resource groups in this category. The survey results below may help indicate the effectiveness of these programs.

According to a 2017 Harvard Business Review article, Deloitte eliminated all employee resource groups in favor of an inclusion-focused plan. They argued that ERG’s are good for fellowship, but they do little to improve opportunities for out-groups.

There is no evidence that Deloitte offers programs to specifically support or connect employees who are family caregivers.

Integrated mental health services includes no-cost referrals to in-house psychology professionals and up to eight free sessions.

Deloitte offers employees a wide variety of financial planning resources, presumably to include saving for potential family caregiving. However, none of these types of services were specifically included on their website.
